PM Sheikh Hasina sets example of austerity

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set an example of austerity by cancelling the vehicle purchase budget of her office and giving directives to expend in healthcare facilities.

The PM’s press secretary Ihsasnul Karim said Taka 15 crores were allocated for Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to purchase motorized vehicle in 2021-2022 fiscal year.

However, she has asked to expend the money for the medical expenses of the masses.

“The premier has given top priority to the public health amid the ongoing Covid-19 situation. As part of her efforts, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered to cancel the vehicle procurement and disburse the budget for medical treatment,” Ihsanul Karim said.

“The government has been working relentlessly to improve the country’s health sector by taking a flurry of measures including appointing physicians and health workers, boosting medical infrastructure and other features, increasing ICU facilities, consolidating the competence of hospitals, providing incentives to the medical staff and immunizing people free of cost,” the press secretary furthered.

PMO director general (Admin) Md. Ahsan Kibria Siddiqui sent a letter to the concerned officials on Sunday (September 12) to implement the prime minister’s directive.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set an example of austerity by asking to spend PMO’s vehicle procurement budget of taka 15 crore at the health sector, Ahsan Kibria Siddiqui said.
