Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner, Khandkar Golam Faruk said that there is no threat to the Eid Jamaat, but special security measures have been taken keeping in mind about the past accident at the Sholakia Eidgah.
He said these things in a press conference with journalists after inspecting and observing the security measures taken by the National Eidgah Maidan on Friday morning.
The commissioner said, "Four levels of security measures have been taken at the National Eidgah grounds. The entire field will be monitored through CC cameras. Everyone coming to the National Eidgah has to enter through the archway metal detector. So, everyone is requested to come a little earlier. Anything other than prayer mat is not allowed in the premises. No flammable substances can be brought."
"There will be special security arrangements for the VIPs who will come to the Eidgah. The fire brigade will be there along with the police in uniform and plain clothes. Security of National Eidgah will be ensured in coordination with other forces. We will all share the joy of Eid, we hope that the Eid congregation will be held in a joyful atmosphere", he added.
Around 35,000 people can pray together in a row at the National Eidgah.
