Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed to construct another metro rail in Chattogram like Dhaka. She mentioned to build the metro rail link from Chattogram airport to rail station. Apart from Chattogram, the mass transit system will also be constructed at all other big cities gradually, she said.
The premier said this while speaking as a chair at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council at NEC conference centre in capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Tuesday.
Following the meeting planning minister MA Mannan disclosed the matter to media.
“She told about building metro rail in all other big cities. We, the planning ministry, will encourage any project regarding the metro rail,” Mannan said quoting the PM.
“Sometimes we ought to revise projects several times. Only the contractors and public works department are not responsible for this. The consultant who provides the design always remains behind the curtain. The PM asked to bring them to accountability,” Mannan furthered.
State Minister for planning Shamsul Alam said, “Three mega projects will be inaugurated this year. Padma Bridge will be opened in June, Karnaphuli tunnel in October and Metro Rail (Route-6) in December. Country’s GDP will increase by 1.52 percent.”
As many as 10 projects were approved during the ECNEC meeting involving taka 11 thousand 211 crore.
