Jamaat called rally despite not getting permission

Jamaat-e-Islami called a rally at Motijheel in the capital to demand the fall of the current government, the establishment of a caretaker government and elections under an independent government. But they were not given permission by the police.

Thousands of Jamaat leaders and workers have gathered in Motijheel, Arambagh area since morning despite not getting permission.

Such a scenario was seen in Arambagh area on Saturday at 11 am.

As part of the party program, half a hundred leaders and workers of the party gathered on the south side of Shapla Chattar on Saturday around 9 am. The police removed them. Later, the leaders and workers occupied the entire road from Arambagh to Motijheel.

Jamaat leaders and workers said that the central leaders of the party informed that they have been given verbal permission regarding the rally.

Meanwhile, the police is not allowing Jamaat leaders and workers to cross the Arambagh intersection. The intersection was barricaded by police in the morning.


Police have put up another barricade on the way from Shapla Chattar in Motijheel towards Notre Dame College.

Arambagh-Notre Dame College area road is closed for traffic. Common people are also not allowed to travel on this road.

In this regard, DMP Media DC Faruk Hossain said that Jamaat-e-Islami was not allowed to hold the rally. And verbal permission was not given.

Head of Police Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit Md. Asaduzzaman came to Arambagh area at 10 am today and said that Jamaat was not allowed to hold a gathering. So the police will not allow Jamaat to hold a gathering. Police will take legal action if Jamaat tries to hold any gathering. 

For two days, several senior officials of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have said that the Jamaat will not be allowed to hold a gathering in Dhaka.
