Hearing on 11 cases against Khaleda Zia on October 20

Court has fixed October 20 to conduct hearing of 11 cases including sabotage and sedition charges against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Session judge KM Imrul Kayes scheduled the date on Tuesday (August 24). 

The last hearing was conducted on August 10 last year. But the hearing was deferred later as the court’s proceedings were suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

The former prime minister was sued in multiple cases including eight sabotage lawsuits with Darus Salam police station, two with Jatrabari police station. 

Besides, a sedition case was filed on January 25 in 2016 for controversial remarks on the number of martyrs in the war of liberation. 

Earlier on January 23, 2015, at least 29 passengers sustained burn injuries after a Glori Transport’s bus set on fire at Katherpul area of Jatrabari in the capital. Among the injured, Nur Alam (60) later succumbed while undergoing treatment. 

Sub-inspector KM Nuruzzaman filed a case against Khaleda Zia for ordering sabotage activities ‘in the name of hartal’ with Jatrabari police station. 

DB police inspector Bashir Ahmed pressed the charge sheet on May 6 against 38 accused including Khaleda Zia as prime accused.

Furthermore, eight sabotage cases were lodged with Darus Salam police station in 2015.
