HC stays BFUJ polls for two months

The High Court stayed the forthcoming election of Bangladesh Federal Journalists Union (BFUJ) for two months.

The BFUJ election was scheduled to be held on October 23.

The HC bench of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order following a writ petition filed by Mohammad Hasan Ferdous -- former general secretary of Chattogram Union of Journalists -- challenging the legality of the voter list prepared for the BFUJ election in 2021, Assistant Attorney General Golam Sarwar Payel told media.

He said the name of writ petitioner Mohammad Hasan Ferdous was dropped from the voter list.

He submitted an application to the BFUJ president and the registrar general of the trade union in August and September this year for correcting the voter list by including his name, but they are yet to do it, AAG Golam Sarwar said.
