Demand to extend Eid holiday by 1 day

Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samiti has demanded the official Eid holiday to be extended by one day to reduce traffic congestion, passenger harassment and fare anarchy during the upcoming Eid.

Eid-ul-Fitr may be on April, 22 (Saturday) subject to moon sighting. In that case, Eid holiday shall start on the previous day. That is, Friday-Saturday-Sunday might be the Eid holiday. People who want to celebrate Eid in the village will have to suffer because of only three days of holiday.

Earlier, sources in the Ministry of Public Administration said that the extension of the holiday may be proposed considering the overall situation. Public Administration State Minister. Farhad Hossain told the media that extending the leave is in the Prime Minister's jurisdiction. The situation will be reported to the government.

As there is no alternative route to the Padma Bridge and the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway to facilitate road communication with South Bengal, there will be a lot of traffic jams from Dhaka to Jatrabari and Sayedabad. On the other hand, passengers have to be stuck in bad traffic due to the construction work of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) at Gabtali Bridge and Tongi, which are the two other ways to enter and exit Dhaka.
