130 people, mostly AL men, killed in political violence this year

As many as 130 people have been killed in 11 months of the present calendar due to political violence. Of them 57 are leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League accounting almost half of the total deceased.

Rights group Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) revealed the information in a report on Sunday (December 19).

The report was produced based on news reports published on national dailies and online portals from January to November this year.

According to the report, some 688 clashes took place in 11 months leaving 130 people dead and some 8 thousand 594 people injured.  

Among the dead, 57 are leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League, 4 BNP men and one journalist. However, 50 more deceased were found no political identity. Among the AL leaders and activist, 12 died in intra-party feud.

Some 40 people were killed during pre and post-polling violence starting from Union Parishad election in June, the report said.
